Common land consent
We are proposing to build a new teaching pool at London Fields Lido.
London Fields is common land, so we need to apply to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) for commons consent for the development.
An advert has been placed in the Hackney Citizen. The advert advises residents that they can look at a hard copy of the application form and accompanying documents at either the Town Hall or London Fields Lido receptions. The application folder is available to view at each reception from Friday 28 July to Monday 28 August 2023. The application folder is also available to view online.
The car park has 35 spaces available – three are disabled spaces.
West Reservoir improvement project
The West Reservoir Centre sits on 23 acres of water in a 30-acre site. It, along with the West Reservoir, is one of London’s most significant leisure and natural resources. It provides water sports and open water swimming for people of all ages, surrounded by green space and nature.
We are proposing improvements to increase the accessibility of West Reservoir. This includes creating access to new green space and upgrading the West Reservoir Centre facilities. These improvements are a significant opportunity to deliver inclusive facilities that enable more people to experience the site.
Design proposals for the West Reservoir surrounding landscape
We are proposing a number of changes to the green space surrounding the reservoir:
a new accessible green space for local residents and visitors allowing people to circulate around the eastern bank
two new accessible bridges across the New River to the north and south
enhanced habitats for wildlife
improved landscaping
a more accessible path network (better linking West Reservoir to Woodberry Down estate, Woodberry Wetlands and Green Lanes)
new reed beds in the Reservoir
stabilisation of the New River banks
Design proposals for the West Reservoir Centre
We are proposing a number of improvements to the West Reservoir Centre. We aim to update the facilities to make them more accessible and inclusive, encouraging a broader range of users:
a new introduction to open water swimming area for beginner swimmers and other groups
new indoor ‘village changing’ facilities with showers and additional toilets
new outdoor changing facilities and showers
relocation of the cafe with new outdoor seating area, to maximise the space inside the building
upgraded conference spaces
upgraded boat workshop and learning spaces
Next steps
Improvements to the soft landscaping including trees, hedges and reed beds will start in Spring 2024.
We’ve submitted a planning application for the main improvement works for approval in spring 2024. If Planning is approved the remaining improvements will be due to start in summer 2024.
