Chatsworth Road Liveable Neighbourhood

We’re making improvements in the Chatsworth Road area to create streets that are safer, more welcoming and accessible.

We’ll start the work on 4 August 2025. It will take around 4 weeks to complete.

Find out more about what’s changing and why.

What’s changing

We will be:

  • installing a traffic filter to restrict most vehicles from traveling southbound on Chatsworth Road (just past Clifden Road) between 7am and 7pm. Buses, cyclists, pedestrians, emergency vehicles, council bin lorries, Blue Badge holders with a HAC01 permit and taxis booked through Taxicard service will still be allowed
  • closing Chatsworth Road between Dunlace Road and Blurton Road to most vehicles on Sundays from 6am to 8pm to create a Sunday market for pedestrians only (emergency services, council bin lorries and market traders will still be allowed)
  • introducing new turn restrictions and one-way streets, view the engineer’s drawing (PDF 2.8mb)
  • installing rain gardens south of Clifden Road to collect rainwater and improve the area
  • putting up new signs and road markings to show updated traffic management systems
  • moving the disabled parking bay from outside number 5 Elderfield Road to outside number 7
  • introducing new parking restrictions on Blurton Road, Glenarm Road, Dunlace Road, Elderfield Road, and Chatsworth Road

Why we’re making changes

Over the past 2 years, we’ve listened to local people and businesses through surveys and consultations to understand what matters most to them.

Using this feedback, along with traffic data, we designed the changes to:

  • make Chatsworth Road and the surrounding area easier to walk, wheel and cycle in
  • improve journey times for buses and ambulances
  • reduce traffic in the area
  • improve the area as a place to visit and shop, including on market day

For more information, read the:

While the work is happening

Suitable traffic management measures will be in place while the work is happening.

We might use temporary parking suspensions on parking bays and temporary traffic lights on Chatsworth Road if needed.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

After we’ve made the changes

After we’ve made the changes we will:

  • monitor the impact of the scheme for at least 3 years
  • publish the first set of data by December 2025, reflecting the main concerns we heard from people during the consultation

Consultation responses

We ran a public consultation on draft proposals from 7 January 2025 to 21 February 2025. Around 2,000 people shared their views.

Find out more about the consultation, including the responses in our consultation report (google slides).
