Elected representatives
Hackney has 21 wards, 15 wards represented by three councillors and six wards represented by two councillors. Council elections take place every four years.
Hackney has a directly elected Mayor. The Mayor selects some of the councillors to be part of her cabinet. Together, they decide what policies should be put before full council for a vote.
Mayor Woodley was elected as Hackney’s third directly elected Mayor in November 2023.
