Selman House and Wellday House (Gascoyne Estate)
In summer 2022, we talked to residents about a proposal to replace the garages at Selman House and Wellday House with new council homes.
Since then, our cabinet has given us permission to work with a design team and residents to develop plans for these new homes on the estate.
This is one of 14 locations across Hackney that will make up a new programme to build around 400 new homes.
75% of the new homes across the programme will be council homes for social rent. All the homes at the Selman and Wellday site will be for social rent.
Designing the new homes
We appointed a design team in 2024 and have been working with them to develop proposals and share ideas with residents for new homes. They will also work on wider improvements in the estate.
Since the start of the design process, we have had 2 resident engagement events in November 2024 and March 2025. We have also attended the Gascoyne tenants and residents association meeting to update residents on progress. We will also hold another engagement event in summer 2025.
We plan to build 22 new homes on the former car park and garage site, and also plan to make some improvements to the landscape and shared outdoor spaces on the site. We will be submitting a planning application in the autumn of this year.
The earliest we will be able to start building is late 2026. This depends on the design process and getting planning permission.
