Mayoral and local elections 2026

On Thursday 7 May 2026, elections will take place to elect the Mayor of Hackney and 57 ward councillors.

Who can vote

You can vote in this election if you’re:

  • registered to vote in Hackney
  • aged 18 or over on or before 7 May 2026

You cannot vote in this election if you live abroad.

You must register to vote before you can take part in this election.

The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Monday 20 April 2026.

Postal vote

You must submit your application for a postal vote by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026.

Proxy vote

You must submit your application for a proxy vote by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.

Voter ID

You’ll need to show photo ID when voting in person.

If you do not have any form of photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate on GOV.UK.

We must receive your application before 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
