Healthier Catering Commitment
What is the Healthier Catering Commitment?
The Healthier Catering Commitment is a voluntary scheme that is promoted by local authorities to help caterers and food businesses make simple, healthy improvements to their food. It’s simple to operate and requires little work from food businesses while making a health difference to customers.
The scheme is run by the Council and is backed by both the Mayor of London and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
What are the benefits to your business?

You’ll also receive a certificate and a window display sticker for your premises. You will also have some photos taken of your business which will then be promoted via Hackney Council’s social media.
Benefits to businesses signed up to the scheme include:
- increased publicity and awareness
- increased number of customers visiting the business
- potential to increase profits
- ability to contribute to the health and wellbeing of residents

Food nutrition training for Hackney businesses
We have created a short course that covers the basics of food nutrition for businesses in Hackney.
Completing this course does not make your business part of the Healthier Catering Commitment (HCC) scheme or qualify for the HCC award. If you want to join the HCC scheme, you need to apply separately.
Any business can take this course, regardless of its food hygiene rating or whether it is part of the HCC scheme.
After completing the course, you will get a certificate. You will receive an email confirming your completion and to arrange the in-person delivery of your certificate.
