What is the Healthier Catering Commitment?

The Healthier Catering Commitment is a voluntary scheme that is promoted by local authorities to help caterers and food businesses make simple, healthy improvements to their food. It’s simple to operate and requires little work from food businesses while making a health difference to customers.

The scheme is run by the Council and is backed by both the Mayor of London and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

What are the benefits to your business?

Businesses who receive the HCC award will be listed on the on this page and on the Healthier Catering Commitment London website. You’ll also receive a certificate and a window display sticker for your premises. You will also have some photos taken of your business which will then be promoted via Hackney Council’s social media.

Benefits to businesses signed up to the scheme include:

Who’s eligible for the scheme?

The Healthier Catering Commitment is open to all food businesses that have a food hygiene rating scheme score of three or above. The scheme is open to all types of catering establishments including restaurants, cafes, takeaways, leisure centres, sandwich bars, pubs, bars and canteens.

Food businesses who apply will have to meet a minimum of 8 criteria to qualify for the Healthier Catering Commitment award. There are 4 essential criteria that all businesses have to meet, plus an additional 3 essential criteria that have to be met if you are using a deep fat fryer.
