Free or cheaper travel for older and disabled people
Freedom passes
Freedom passes are available to older people and disabled people in Hackney providing free public transport. See .
Railcard
Railcards provide free or reduced-cost travel to local people aged 60 and over, who are physically disabled or have a learning difficulty. You’ll need to be assessed to see if you’re eligible for one. If you have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult you might qualify for the disabled persons railcard.
Taxicard
London Taxicard provides subsidised door-to-door travel in taxis and private-hire vehicles for people who have serious mobility or visual impairment. To qualify you must have a long term or permanent illness or disability, which significantly limits you from or prevents you using public transport.
Welfare transport service
Welfare transport provides purpose-built transport to carry people with disabilities and special needs to day centres and for older people to access day centres and lunch clubs. There’s a small fee for this service. Referrals take place after an assessment. For more information call us on 020 8356 4550 Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. You can also write to Welfare Transport Service, 40 Andrews Road, E8 4RL or email: info@hackney.gov.uk. Our out-of-hours number is 020 8356 8761/8759.
