Hoxton regeneration

We’re investing in Hoxton’s streets and spaces to help people feel more connected, healthier and less isolated.

Our aims for Hoxton

We’re making improvements to Hoxton’s streets and public spaces. These changes aim to:

  • improve wellbeing
  • create a sense of belonging
  • reduce social isolation for local people

What local people have told us

Local people said they want us to:

  • include the community in development plans
  • make the market street more lively and affordable
  • support organisations and businesses that provide social value
  • value and support people of all ages
  • make walking in the area safer and more enjoyable
  • make better use of Hoxton’s green spaces

Our vision for Hoxton

The Hoxton regeneration framework shows our vision for the neighbourhood. It brings together:

From co-design events, we’ve created priorities for Hoxton:

  • strengthen Hoxton’s identity and make sure local people have a say in changes to their neighbourhood
  • create a successful and affordable market street
  • celebrate organisations and businesses that deliver social value in Hoxton
  • support younger and older people in the area
  • improve pedestrian areas
  • make better use of Hoxton’s green spaces

The Greater London Authority’s Civic Partnership Programme has given us £3 million to make these changes.

What’s changing

So far we’ve:

  • improved the entrance to Hoxton Community Garden
  • improved the green spaces around Geffrye Estate by planting trees, herbs and flowers, and adding bee posts, bug hotels and log piles
  • installed public art on the blank wall facing Falkirk Street
  • made more improvements to Hoxton Community Garden by widening the paths and improving the fencing

We’re going to:

  • replace and extend the pavement outside Shoreditch Library, view the works notification (PDF 1.1mb)
  • improve the green spaces around Cordelia House by planting new trees, herbs and hedges
  • introduce electric power for market events and food stalls, and a new colour scheme for gazebos
  • improve the streets around Hoxton Hall, repaving outside the entrance and making it easier to cross the road, view the works diagram (PDF 1.4mb)
  • improve signage to help people get around
  • plant trees on Hoxton Street and in other areas nearby

Have your say on other changes we’d like to make

We’d like your feedback on some other changes we’d like to make in Hoxton.

These include proposals to:

  • reduce traffic in Hoxton Street, Falkirk Street, Crondall Street, Stanway Street and Fanshaw Street and prevent vehicles taking short-cuts along important walking and cycling routes
  • create a School Street outside St Monica’s Catholic Primary School – this means most traffic will not be allowed to drive on the street during school drop-off and pick-up hours on school days during term times
