Broadway Market and Regents Court

In Summer 2022, we talked to residents about the proposal to replace garages and car parks with new council homes at Regents Court Estate, Suffolk Estate and Welshpool House.

Since then, our cabinet has given us permission to develop plans for these new homes. We will be working with residents, local businesses, a design team and Suffolk tenant management organisation (TMO).

These are 3 of 14 locations across Hackney that will make up a new programme to build around 400 new homes. 75% of the new homes will be council homes for social rent.

Designing the new homes

In February 2024, we chose an architectural team to create designs for the new homes on the estate.

The design process has included 2 public engagement events, held in the summer of 2024 and spring of 2025. These events gave residents a chance to give their feedback and influence the designs.

We also created resident steering groups for the sites. These are groups of residents that provide feedback on designs. There have been 6 meetings so far.

We’re now in the final stages of designing the proposals. We’re looking at all the feedback we received before we submit a planning application in the summer of 2025.

We’ve scheduled another consultation event for later this summer before the submission. At the event, we will present the near-final designs to residents.

Get involved

We’re committed to working with residents throughout the design process. This makes sure that the new homes can:

  • help those in housing need
  • improve the estate overall for all residents

Residents will have a final opportunity to feed back on proposals before we submit a planning application.

We will inform residents of the event date through a letter, our newsletter, and email.
