Albion Square
Albion Square is a delightful Victorian Square tucked away in a conservation area in the London Fields ward. The square is surrounded by period housing and is shaded by mature trees.
The park holds a Green Flag award. The awards are given to the best green spaces in the country and are awarded each year to make sure the quality of the green space remains high.
See Albion Square management plan (google doc).
Drinking fountain
We recently restored and refurbished the water fountain in Albion Square, in partnership with HOLT (Heritage of London Trust) and Albion Square Resident Association. To find out more about HOLT, visit Heritage of London Trust.
John Passmore Edwards (a political and social reformer and anti-slavery campaigner) installed the Albion Square drinking fountain in 1910.
We have:
- cleaned the fountain, removed all staining using a poultice, and then dismantled it
- integrated new plumbing and waste pipes with piping to the nearest Thames Water manhole
- set new taps into the original rosette taps
- removed the existing drainage grilles and improved the drainage
- repointed all joints and gilded the lettering to improve legibility
