Elections Act 2022
The Elections Act 2022 has now passed into law and contains important measures affecting voting and elections in the UK.
The changes will be introduced during 2023 and 2024 and apply to UK Parliamentary elections and local elections in Hackney.
The following is a summary of the changes. This page will be updated with further information throughout 2023.
Registering to vote
Registering to vote is quick and easy – it takes just a few minutes online.
Postal voting
Postal voting – to qualify for a postal vote you must be registered to vote. If you intend to request a postal vote, we recommend you register to vote well in advance of the deadline.
Vote by proxy
Proxy voting – you can appoint someone else to cast your vote on your behalf if you have a valid reason: for example, if you are ill, are unable to get to a polling station or are abroad during the election.

Constituencies and wards – there are 2 constituencies in Hackney: Hackney North and Stoke Newington, and Hackney South and Shoreditch. Hackney has 21 wards in total.
