Reuse clothes and textiles

Donating clothes

Do you often find your wardrobe filled with unloved and unworn clothes that you may wish to dispose of?

Around Hackney, there are 90 clothing banks where you can dispose of your unwanted textiles responsibly by donating them to our partnering charities:

What can I donate?

  • clothes (any kind, all styles)
  • shoes (paired)
  • accessories (ie bags, scarves, hats etc)
  • linen (ie curtains, towels, bed sheets)

What can’t I donate?

  • no duvets or pillows
  • no overly damaged or stained clothes

What happens to my donations?

Clothes and textiles in good condition will be donated and sold for re-use in charity shops.

Items that aren’t suitable for donations can be recycled and made into new items, such as padding for chairs and car seats or industrial blankets.

So instead of putting your unloved clothes in the rubbish bin, you can give them a second chance in a new home.

We’ll be running these events in partnership with LoanHood.

Restyle and exchange clothes, extend the life of your unworn clothes, and reduce the amount of clothing that gets thrown away.

How it works

Morning

  • drop: 11am, swap: 12 noon, 12.30pm, 1pm

Afternoon

  • drop: 1.30pm, swap: 2.30pm, 3pm, 3.30pm

We’ll display your items on the token stalls – browse the rails and exchange your tokens for your new preloved clothes.

We’ll also have a power hour from 4 to 5pm for your final swaps. Run out of tokens? There’ll be extra ones available for £1 each (for the last hour) so you can continue shopping. All proceeds go to the charity TRAID.

What can I donate?

Anything you once valued or will be valued by someone else. If you’d give it to a friend, you can bring it?

  • women’s, men’s, and children’s clothes, accessories, and footwear
  • clean and good quality
  • free of faults or minor repairs
  • no underwear or swimwear
  • we can refuse any items

Please bring no more than 10 items: clothing, accessories or footwear – clean and ready to go to its new home.

Items are assessed and categorised based on RRP (recommended retail price) and condition. This will dictate how many tokens you can swap:

  • 1 x token – preloved under £50 RRP
  • 2 x token – preloved over £50 RRP and in great condition

The Seam

The Seam will be on site all day to help with alterations and there’ll be clothes repairs and customisations sessions.
