Hackney households receive approximately 35 million pieces of unwanted mail each year. These weigh 900 tonnes and take 6,000 trees to create.
There are several ways to reduce the amount of unwanted mail you receive:
Get a say no to junk mail pack
Our pack can help you reduce the unwanted mail you receive. It contains:
- a no junk mail sticker which you can put on your letterbox and stop flyers, leaflets and fast food menus hitting your doormat (this will not affect your delivery of Hackney Today)
- a Royal Mail opt out card - fill this in and return it to stop unaddressed mail
- information about the Mail Preference Service to have your name and address removed from mailing lists
Or a pack by emailing your name and address to email@example.com.
Avoid new mailing lists
When completing forms, don't forget that you can usually tick a box requesting no further correspondence or you can write to the company.
You can also tick the box on the council's annual electoral registration form to opt out of the edited version of the electoral register, which companies can buy for marketing purposes.
Stop BT phonebook deliveries
If you would like to opt out of hard copy editions of the BT phone book then email firstname.lastname@example.org with:
- your name and address
- the text "I authorise my address to be removed from future deliveries of the Phone Book from BT"
