Food training courses and advice

Anyone who works with food is responsible for protecting the health of their customers and ensuring that the food they serve or sell is safe to eat. 

The Food Standards Agency has lots of information and guidance for businesses to help provide safer food for customers including Safer food, better business for caterers and the starting up booklet for those who are starting up for the first time.

Food hygiene and food allergen courses

We deliver one day training courses to help you to ensure that your staff have the required knowledge to meet your legal obligations as well as giving your staff a nationally recognised qualification.

We offer 2 one-day courses in food safety and food allergy risks leading to Level 2 awards in Food Safety and Hygiene and Identifying and Controlling Food Allergy Risks. The awards are issued by the Royal Society of Public Health.

Who should attend?

Anyone who handles or prepares food, whether unwrapped or packaged, needs to be supervised and instructed and/or trained in food hygiene to ensure they have sufficient knowledge to enable them to do their job safely. Food businesses are also required to control the risks associated with food allergens.

Employers are responsible for staff hygiene trainingincluding staff who work in: restaurants, cafes, takeaways, home catering, schools, nurseries, care homes, pubs, sandwich shops, hotels, mobile traders, retailers.

Our courses are open to everyone – private businesses, voluntary and community organisations, health and social care providers, education and training services and individuals. 

Please note that the courses are presented in English and candidates will need to be able to understand both written and spoken English.

Course dates and times

Courses are usually held at the Hackney Service Centre in Hillman Street, E8 or at Hackney Town Hall in Mare Street.

Level 2 award in Food Safety and Hygiene

Next dates: 22 July, 14 October

Time: 9.30am to 5pm

Level 2 award in Identifying and Controlling Food Allergy Risks

Next dates: 25 July, 16 October

Time: 9.30am to 3pm

Costs

£65 per person (incl. VAT) including course materials. You’ll also receive a certificate if you pass.

Please note that courses dates are subject to a minimum number of candidates attending. Courses may be cancelled if there are insufficient numbers in which case we will offer you another date or a refund.
