Young Hackney Eastway

A new youth sports facility for Hackney Wick

In response to findings in the ‘Hackney Wick Through Young Eyes’ report, highlighting a lack of amenities for young people in the area, we’re developing a multi-use sports facility for young people behind the Old Baths on Eastway in Hackney Wick.

We’ve secured £785,000 from a range of internal and external funding sources including the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund and London Legacy Development Corporation’s Neighbourhood Priorities Fund. We’ll operate the facility for the first 6 years.

Young people have been involved at all stages of the design and planning process and their ideas are reflected in the final designs for the classroom and the name of the facility – Young Hackney Eastway. It will include a new multi use sports area, classroom, office, toilets, storage area for local groups to use and a courtyard

Work started on site in May 2021 and is set to be completed in September 2021.

Social economic benefits

We’ll be developing programmes for children and young people aged 6 to 19 (or up to 25 if they have an additional needs) around the themes:

Active every day

Supporting young people to take part in an hour of physical activity a day and activities that support their health and wellbeing.

Social integration and equality

Developing initiatives that use sport, physical activity and active play for social good; developing projects that tackle and address issues of inequality.

Aspiring and achieving

Using sport, physical activity and active play to provide opportunities for accreditations and qualifications; developing employability and life skills.

Youth participation and voice

Supporting young people to develop their voice, place and influence in society; developing programmes that support young people working and volunteering in sport, physical activity and active play industries.
