There are many organisations that can help you to start your own business, or offer advice to new businesses.

Bright Ideas Trust

Bright Ideas Trust provides an innovative package of business support services to 16-30 year olds in London who are looking to start their own business.

British Library Business & IP Centre (BIPC)

TheBIPC can help you start, run and grow your business. They offer free access to the UK's most comprehensive collection of business and intellectual property databases and publications, including general startup advice, information on funding sources, market research, company data, business news and information on patents, trade marks, registered designs and copyright. They provide one-to-one advice sessions with experts and also many workshops and events.  


CIDA is a specialist support organisation that champions the development of the creative and cultural sector, in particular in East London. They work with creative start-ups and existing businesses and cultural organisations. They offer one to one business or project development sessions, finance and fundraising guidance and access to industry specialist consultants.

City Business Library

City Business Library supports business start-up and growth. It provides free access to business information resources including; company data (UK and global companies), global market research reports and statistics, import and export data, business start-up information and business news. The Library runs a programme of business seminars, courses and 121 sessions. There are also seminar rooms, a meeting room, and desk spaces available to hire. 

Environmental health - registering a food business

Anyone starting a business in Hackney that prepares, sells, stores or transports food must register with us within the 28 day period before the business opens. - business provides information about starting up and running a business in the UK, including help if you're self employed or a sole trader. - business tax offers guidance on what you need to do for tax and National Insurance purposes when you start up a business as a self-employed person, a partnership or a limited company.  

Great Business

Great Business is a partnership between private enterprise and government to highlight support for start-ups and growing businesses and encourage entrepreneurial spirit. On their website you can find videos, case studies and tutorials to take you through the process of starting a business.

HBV Enterprise

HBV offer free support and advice to Hackney residents who want to start a business. Once you've registered with them you can book your place on a seminar to find out what's involved in running a business and also attend one of their start a business workshops. They also offer one-to-one meeting with business advisors to discuss your business plan, funding and how to go about setting up a limited company.

London Small Business Centre

London Small Business Centre provides a free, impartial and confidential business counselling service. They offer a comprehensive four day business start-up course, one-to-one help with preparing your business plan, help with researching your market, advice and guidance on your business sector and help with raising start-up finance.
